Finally...a posting!

Dear All,

I have tried to sit down to update this blog for the last five days.  I am not certain where all of my time goes.  It seems like my days wiz by.  Daniel turned 16 months old this week.  It seemed like yesterday that we first learned about his diagnosis.  It will be a year in a couple of months….certainly not a date we will celebrate…honestly, Justin and I will probably never be able to look at Valentines the same.  What a shame because we really loved to celebrate the love we have for each other.  Instead now I am sure that we will celebrate the love we have for our precious baby boy!

There has been so much that has happened in the last few months.  Daniel got his first “big boy wheelchair.”  He loves it and seems to be able to sit in it longer than his tumble form chairs.  We ordered and received a ramp and tie downs for the van.  We are now waiting for the hooks that attach to the wheelchair to tie it down.  Installing all of this will be very difficult but Justin has been reading everything he can about it.  Thank you to all who have donated to Daniel’s Hope Fund.  The ramp and tie downs were over $500.00 and was all paid by donations.  I am not sure what we would have done without his fund.

Thanksgiving was great.  Grannie Annie and her friend, Doug, came from Texas to celebrate.  Daniel loves to play with Grannie Annie and practices his “high five” with her each and everyday.  Daniel showed off all of his moves in the hot tub.  He loves to swim which makes his aqua therapy easy for us!!!  Thanksgiving dinner was great because Grannie Annie made most of it.  It was fun cooking with her.  Daniel sat in the kitchen part of the time.

We finally finished celebrating Daniel’s birthday.  As most of you know he was in the hospital on his first birthday.  On October 1st we tried to celebrate with the Wright Family because it was Abbee’s birthday.  Daniel fell asleep right before the cake and cupcake part. (smart boy….he waited until all of his presents were opened!)  We saved his cupcake (made special by Jancee!!!) and took pictures while he helped to celebrate my birthday.  He even had a taste of icing!  He loved it!

Daniel had his first haircut.  Jancee came over to our house and cut it.  It was so long that he was starting to look like Doc Brown from Back to the Future.  It was a fun experience and he was so patient.  I think he doesn’t really care what happens as long as Abbee is around.  He really loves her!

I am now going to try to post all of these pictures.  Please remember to click on the main picture to get access to all of the pictures from the same event.  We are working feverously trying to get Christmas cards out.  If we do not have your address and you would like a Daniel Christmas card please email us your address.  We love to send pictures of him to all of his loved ones and “fans”.

15 days until Grandma and Grandpa get here!

Much love and tons of kisses to all,

Connie

Daniel did very well on our trip to the Dominican Republic.  It was a long trip there and back but he was a trooper.  We did need the oxygen in flight so we are so greatful to Rich from Bennett Medical Services in Elko for loaning us the oxygen concentrator.  A very big THANKS goes out to Marilyn and her co-workers at Delta Airlines here in Salt Lake City.  Marilyn made our trip so much easier and sent us away with so much love and support.  She was also here to meet us as we flew back into Salt Lake City.  Marilyn's mother, Kathleen, made Daniel a special "jungle themed" quilt.  Daniel loves it!  As you can see by his pictures with Marilyn, he just loves her!

We met two other families while in the
Dominican Republic who were there for treatment.  Pictured here are Mathew and his parents, Neal and Susie.  They were so friendly and helpful!  We hope that we see them again soon!

Daniel's treatment session went well.  Daddy was allowed to start his IV, which I am sure made Daniel feel a bit safer.  We were allowed to lie with him in the hospital bed and the whole procedure only took a couple of hours.  The clinic staff was wonderful, especially Dr. Rader and his wife Debra.  We could have not asked for a better experience.  It is a little early to see improvements or progress but we have noticed some extra movement in Daniel's legs.  We try to get him into the pool as much as possible since he is able to move a bit easier there.  As you can see from the pictures, he loves the going to the pool!

We encourage all to write to us for more information regarding his treatment.  We try to answer emails as fast as possible!
