January 8, 2008 - Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!  We have so much HOPE for this year.  We are hopeful that Daniel will continue to be well and strong.  We are hopeful that researchers will find a way for SMA children to live long and healthy lives.  We are hopeful that there will a CHANGE in laws that will enable Daniel and other children to get stem cell treatment in this country.  We are hopeful that we will give Daniel as much love and joy that he has given us!

Daniel had a really great Christmas!  Grandpa Lou and Grandma Joyce came from
New York
to spend 10 days.  He had so much fun!  We had a great traditional Italian/New York Christmas Eve Dinner.  Grandma Joyce really went all out!  Matter of fact, she went all out to feed us great food the entire 10 days!  Thank you Aunt Dawn for giving us dinner from Honey Baked Hams for Christmas Day!  It was so delicious!  We had a great day with friends stopping by…Mike, our friendly pharmacist and Amanda and her beautiful girls.  Thanks for the great new doggie.

We feel very blessed to have received so many cards, pictures and letters from so many people!  Daniel received so many nice presents! We are so appreciative of everyone who thought of us over the holidays! Extra thanks to Marilyn for the wonderful towel and toys!  Since Daniel has aqua therapy daily he really gets great use from his new towel.  We hope you like the pictures of him with it.  Special, special thanks to Veronica Rose for the skate and the great pictures! Wright Family….he may never take off these new jammies….he loves them so much!  There is a special video link that show how much Daniel loves his new monkey Grannie Annie sent.

Thanks too…to all…for the wonderful donations for Daniel’s Hope Fund!

Thank you for being so patient with updates!  It seems that the days fly by so fast.  We are always so crazy-busy!  We rarely have down time but it is because we try to devote as much time to Daniel as possible!

This week will probably fly by as well…Daniel has a bit of a cold.  It seems to be in his nose verses his chest but we are watching carefully.  Please pray that he will get through it without being hospitalized.  He has been very busy with his new books, music and videos.  The Incredibles is his latest video.  He will get to see if for the first time tonight.  He laughed so hard at the preview of it on another movie so we could not resist it when we saw it yesterday.

To all of our family in New York….thank you for all of the active fundraising.  It is so wonderful that you all….Grandma Joyce, Grandpa Lou, Aunt Lorraine,Uncle Larry and others who have started a great holiday fund drive for Daniels Hope Fund.  Other fundraising events will be posted as they begin.

For all of you in Texas…Grannie Annie has been busy putting a group together to come to Wendover in April.  The Peppermill Casino, here in Wendover, has a plane that will be flying out of Houston on April 2nd.  The trip costs $209.00 pp double and includes air (into Wendover), 3 nights hotel, and airport transfers.  If anyone is interested in coming out please email me and I will pass along the request to Grannie Annie.

I have a ton of emails to answer from many of you….I promise I will get to them soon!  Thanks so much for all of the love and support.  Even though we do not get to messages as fast as we would like, we love hearing from everyone!

One more thing……Thank you to the Wendover Times who did a great article on Daniel.  It was called “Daniel’s Update.”  Extra thanks to the West Wendover Fire Department for having Santa come out to visit all of the kids in town.  Daniel would have not been able to meet Santa if it wasn’t for you guys!  Thanks, Thanks, Thanks!!!

Much love to all!

Connie

P.S. I tried to channel a little anger in a creative way.  I posted a powerpoint presentation on youtube.  I will put the link with the other video links on Daniel's picture page.  Warning...it has a political edge....all may not agree but thanks for at least viewing...also, the first picture is one of Daniel when he was intubated...a hard picture but part of my message.  If you don't agree with the message, I hope you at least understand why I felt I had to say what I did!  Connie

Daniel did very well on our trip to the Dominican Republic.  It was a long trip there and back but he was a trooper.  We did need the oxygen in flight so we are so greatful to Rich from Bennett Medical Services in Elko for loaning us the oxygen concentrator.  A very big THANKS goes out to Marilyn and her co-workers at Delta Airlines here in Salt Lake City.  Marilyn made our trip so much easier and sent us away with so much love and support.  She was also here to meet us as we flew back into Salt Lake City.  Marilyn's mother, Kathleen, made Daniel a special "jungle themed" quilt.  Daniel loves it!  As you can see by his pictures with Marilyn, he just loves her!

We met two other families while in the
Dominican Republic who were there for treatment.  Pictured here are Mathew and his parents, Neal and Susie.  They were so friendly and helpful!  We hope that we see them again soon!

Daniel's treatment session went well.  Daddy was allowed to start his IV, which I am sure made Daniel feel a bit safer.  We were allowed to lie with him in the hospital bed and the whole procedure only took a couple of hours.  The clinic staff was wonderful, especially Dr. Rader and his wife Debra.  We could have not asked for a better experience.  It is a little early to see improvements or progress but we have noticed some extra movement in Daniel's legs.  We try to get him into the pool as much as possible since he is able to move a bit easier there.  As you can see from the pictures, he loves the going to the pool!

We encourage all to write to us for more information regarding his treatment.  We try to answer emails as fast as possible!
